WELCOME TO DENNEHOF KAROO GUESTHOUSE

Experience the grandeur of South Africa's unexplored spaces from Prince Albert's oldest homestead, a serene & comfortable base at the foot of the Swartberg Pass.

Ria and Lindsay, are your hosts. “We know that your visit to Prince Albert will be a memorable one and we are delighted that you have chosen to stay with us at our historic farmstead.”

Well on its way to a double century, Dennehof Karoo Guest House is the oldest surviving building in Prince Albert . Built in 1835 on part of the fertile Kweekvallei farm for old Zacharias de Beer's granddaughter on the occasion of her marriage, this sturdy two-roomed farmhouse (as it was then) conformed to a style popular in this part of the country in those early pioneering days. In its original guise it had a thatch roof and whitewashed walls and the exposed timbers were painted green. Near the main house were a barn, some sheds, several smaller outbuildings and a dairy, but set apart from the main cluster of buildings was another barn whose purpose was reserved for the production of vinegar and brandy – and of witblits, an extremely potent raw spirit not to be recommended for anyone but the most seasoned of drinkers. Perhaps this is why the barn was built a respectable distance from the family home…

ROOMS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS

Dennehof consists of several buildings that once constituted the original farmstead. Each room is uniquely designed and decorated to provide you with luxury, whilst experiencing the grandeur of Karoo-living. Each of our rooms has their own character and is infused with great personality.

The Patio Room has a classical Victorian feel to it, with an old wrought iron double bed and en-suite bathroom where an old Victorian tub forms the central feature of the fully equipped bathroom.

The Cottage is one of our most loved rooms. It consists of a bedroom with two twin beds, a small elegant lounge with an enormous fireplace, a quaint little kitchen as well as a large bathroom. Both the room and the lounge walks out onto the main stoep, where one can sit gaze at the mighty Swartberg Mountain . This room offers all the comfort you’ll find in a home, from a colour television, to a microwave and gas stove. The unit can also be utilised as a family room as it leads onto the Dairy…

The Dairy, with its high reed ceilings and poplar wood beams, consists of two twin beds and has its own private en-suite bathroom equipped with a shower. The room walks out onto a private patio, that is lovely for sun-bathing during the winter months or simply relaxing in the cool shade provided by a pepper tree.

The Wagon Shed is definitely one of our most special and sought after honeymoon suites. The room has a double bed, en-suite bathroom, small kitchenette and lounge with colour television. Despite the romantic décor, the room has its own secluded outdoor spa bath, where one can sit and star gaze while relaxing in the tub, or view the ‘koppie’ from one’s own private patio.

The very historic outbuilding - The Forge – was once a place of hard work, but now consists of a double bed, en-suite bathroom and colour television. Loved by our regular guests, this room offers all the simplistic necessities, whilst emphasising Karoo-relaxation.

The Windmill Rooms. The name describes the rooms, Two separate rooms built around the old farm windmill. The one room – The Windmill Room – is a spacious room with two twin beds, en-suite bathroom and a patio overlooking the mountain and flowering garden. The Windmill Suite is our second honeymoon suite. This spacious room has a double bed, en-suite bathroom a small kitchenette. But what makes this room so romantically special, is the fact that it has a spa bath situated intimately inside the room.

In the mornings, breakfast is served on the deck that overlooks the old Kweekvallei where Gay’s Guernsey cows and Angora goats are grazing in the lush green fields. The landscaped garden creates a soft, serene backdrop where songbirds meet and the sound of the lei water runs beneath the deck.

Our guests may arrive as strangers but we make sure that they depart as friends. We also pride ourselves in our customer service, so if you have any queries, or if there is anything we can do to make your stay with us more pleasurable, please do not hesitate to ask us and we shall do our very best to satisfy your request.
