Guesthouse    Self-catering cottages     Grootwaterval Lodge

Rates     Contact details

Grootwaterval farm accommodation and hiking trails, situated four hours drive from Cape Town near the historic town of Prince Albert and "The Hell" in the Swartberg Mountains.

Here you can experience the vastness and calm of the Karoo, more than 150 plant species and a wide diversity of birds, reptiles and wildlife.

Guesthouse rooms

We have two guest rooms in the fully serviced stately guesthouse. Breakfast is provided. Other meals at extra cost. The cuisine is typical Karoo country style. We assure you of a warm welcome in our home.

Brave the heat of summer and relax in the cool, natural spring water dam or in our beautiful green garden.

Gemsbok Cottage

(sleeps 4 - 6persons)

The homely cottage has two bedrooms (one double and two single beds) each with en-suite shower, a pull out sofa in the living room and a fully equipped open plan kitchen.

The generous covered stoep with the outside braai overlooks our small succulent garden.

Ribbok Cottage

(sleeps 4 - 5 persons)

This cozy cottage consists of an open plan kitchen with an old but working wood stove, a small living room with a sleeper couch, two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with single beds, each with en-suite shower.

Grootwaterval Lodge

(sleeps 8 persons)

If you are an outdoor enthusiast and love nature and solitude we would recommend the lodge – the perfect place for a group of friends or a family. The spacious house (7km from the farm house) has no electricity but a lot of oil lamps. In the main building is an open kitchen with everything you need, gas-fridge / freezer, gas-burner and an Aga stove. On cold winter nights you can enjoy the cozy inside fireplace in the living room.

The four bedrooms (two with double beds, two with single beds) are all en-suite. You enter from the generous laid out verandah with an outside fireplace. Quite often one can see Gemsbok, Kudus and Springboks passing by or at night you may be lucky to see the shy cape genet or an aardvark.

All linen and towels are provided. We offer bird watching, swimming in our natural spring water dam, mountain biking, tractor/trailer rides. Explore the Karoo on a 25 km hiking trail or go on a night drive.

Brave the heat of summer and relax afterwards in the cool, natural spring water dam. Several hiking trails can be explored on foot, horseback or bicycle. At night the star gazing is second to none. Grootwaterval offers absolute peace and quiet.

Come and enjoy all this and much more!
