THE VENUE

Miller’s is a charming Karoo hide-away located at the Southern entrance to the village of Prince Albert. The restaurant is nestled on the main road opposite the old mill, which was declared a national monument in 1963 and restored in 2001 by the current owner. The setting is completed by glimpses of the picturesque Swartberg mountain range in the distance.

THE VIBE

Miller’s Restaurant is known for its quaint contradictions. The ambience is rustic, but elegant, the mood is casual, yet lively, and the food eclectic, but honest.

In summer the restaurant offers al fresco dining in a lush garden, as well as on the patio, featuring the cascading sounds of the village ‘lei water’ as it turns the old mill’s wheel. In winter the cosy interior offers warm fireplaces, hearty comfort food and candle-lit hospitality.

THE FOOD

The menu is compact, but varied, and features influences from a variety of world cuisines, including French, Italian, Asian and modern South African inspirations. Dishes tend to have a classic foundation, with unconventional, modern twists and a preference for strong flavour combinations from all over the globe.

The fare is adapted regularly depending on the weather, the availability of seasonal produce and the artistic temperament of the chef-owner, Anton Maartens. Daily or weekly menu changes are often made to accommodate his latest experiment or the discovery of an unexpected ingredient in a local garden.

The menu caters for the faint-hearted, as well as the brave and adventurous. From time to time the chef enjoys dabbling in molecular gastronomy and exotic flavour profiles. When visiting the restaurant, do not be surprised to find yourself the unsuspecting subject of a culinary experiment involving strawberries and coriander, guava and asparagus, or chocolate and cauliflower!

THE WINE

The wine list is exclusively sourced from Route 62 cellars and features a selection of the best on offer from our nearest local producers. The chef is passionate about food and wine pairing and is usually around to provide some recommendations.

Miller's Restaurant is launching its brand new Karoo Koktails from 17th October 2008!

Karoo Koktails are a wacky selection of original summer cocktails featuring local ingredients, such as Aloe Ferox Juice, Prickly Pear Syrup, Soetkaroo and Johanna Luttig's "Hop Johanna" and "Pitte Blits". Each cocktail is chilled to perfection and they are ideal as refreshingly cool sundowners.

Some of the drinks are based on classic cocktails, whilst others are simply the questionable result of dangerous experimentation late at night (please note that no tourists or unsuspecting locals were harmed in the top secret development process).

Miller's Karoo Koktails are exotic concoctions with names like Meringspoort Mermaid, Devil's Claw, Karoo Dawn, Wild Kango and Tail of 2 Towns. The recipe for Dis 'n Lekker Ou Jan is still under development and will therefore be introduced at a later date.

Each night, for the next week or two, Miller's Restaurant will be featuring  the different cocktails as a pre-dinner drink at a reduced price. Thereafter all the drinks will be available as part of the Miller's Karoo Koktails menu.

HIGH TEA

Traditional afternoon high tea is served on weekends during peak season and holidays, to make the most of spectacular view and surrounding garden. Enjoy savoury goodies, old-fashioned cucumber sandwiches and decadent cakes with your favourite pot of tea. Ideal after a day trip or for the not-so-hungry on a hot Karoo day. Call beforehand to ensure availability. Reservations are essential.

FUNCTIONS & SPECIAL EVENTS
