"the ultimate escape"

Deep in the Great Karoo at the foot of the untouched Witteberg
you will find Vêrgenoeg "the ultimate escape"

Experience the Karoo like few people will ever do.
Blue skies and starry nights as far as the eye can see.

Explore the secrets of the "dorsland", like the abundance and variety of:

bird life - 125 species identified to date. Climb the mountain and see the rare Orange Breasted Sunbird

animal life - encounter the nocturnal lynx and ant-eater and other seldom-seen animals on a night drive

plant life -  come see the beautiful plant Senecio haworthii (tonteldoosbos) which is considered threatened in its native habitat. We might not have the abundance of Namakwaland's flowers, but our variety is absolutely astonishing.

Take on the rhythm of creation while on a hike

(guided or on your own),
feel the silence and peace that only Vêrgenoeg can offer you.

For those that really want to step out of the rat race, there are two self-catering thatched chalets built against a hillside overlooking the Great Karoo, each uniquely designed to accommodate just 2 people.

Cool off from the Karoo heat in the swimming pool and let your eyes sweep over the amazing view.

Or snuggle down before the fireplace for a long romantic winter evening.

Then drift off to sleep in a queen-size bed in the deep Karoo quiet, glimpsing the stars through your window.

The bathroom has a shower and we provide all linen and towels. Please bring your own towels for drying off after swimming.

The kitchen is completely fitted for self-catering.

Notes from our visitors' book...

Probably one of our "finds" of the decade. Spectacular view, unbelievable flora and hosts that fired us up with enthusiasm. The place even got the teenagers to say "wow"

WAAR?

Waar kom miljoene sterre saam vergader?

Ursula Seeligers said the following poem was what immediately came to mind when she first visited the farm:

Ein Gleiches  JW von Goethe

Über allen Gipfeln

Ist Ruh,

In allen Wipfeln

Spürest du

Kaum einen Hauch;

Die Vögelein schweigen im Walde.

Warte nur, balde

Ruhest du auch.
